Our Story
Before there was Nilcos, there was a man and a bicycle.
Every legendary brew begins with a single spark of devotion. In 1936, ours started with a bicycle, a tin box, and a man named Abdul Rahman who believed coffee was more than a beverage—it was an act of dignity. Riding through the streets of Tumkur, he lived by a singular, unshakable truth: "If you serve with honesty, the world will taste the truth." What started as a humble mission soon wove the fragrance of freshly roasted beans into the very fabric of the region’s memories.
Guarding the Sacred Ritual
While some families pass down jewelry or land, the Nilcos family passed down a responsibility. In 1956, the visionary Rafiq Mansoor introduced a title so bold it sounded like a revolution: The Nilgiri Coffee Propaganda Company. It was a fearless declaration of quality that eventually gave birth to the name that has echoed through Tumkur since 1968—NILCOS COFFEE.
From the Mist to the Craft
Some companies innovate for the sake of change; Nilcos stayed the same because perfection doesn’t need version updates. Our beans are still sourced from the misty, high-altitude slopes of Chickmagalur—the sacred birthplace of Indian coffee. To preserve the natural oils and deep flavor notes of these handpicked cherries, we continue to roast in small batches using the legendary Menado machine. It is one of only two such machines in South India, ensuring a level of craft that modern factories simply cannot replicate.
Protectors of a 90-Year Legacy
Today, as the third generation steps forward, Mohamed Fyzan and Farheen Mahmood do not see themselves as owners but as protectors of a legacy. Their mission is to ensure that the same authentic, soul-warming coffee Tumkur has cherished for nearly nine decades is now ready for the national stage. In every sip of Nilcos, you taste a bicycle rider’s courage, a family’s promise, and a recipe untouched by time.
